About the AegeanCuisine
It aims at promoting the unique culinary identity of the Aegean Islands both nationally and internationally through a series of marketing and business development activities, in order to secure tangible commercial benefits for local businesses - such as farms, fisheries, wineries, food processing businesses, food stores, restaurants, traditional cafes and hotels - that act as ambassadors of the age-old gastronomic heritage of the islands. AegeanCuisine also aims at supporting the local food and beverage industry in becoming more export-oriented and at encouraging new offerings in the field of culinary tourism. Typical products of the regions ranging from world-class wines and seafood to rare cheese and signature vegetables are the basis for the islands’ excellent local specialties. A marketing plan currently under completion will detail how to effectively use the AegeanCuisine brand as a vehicle for communicating this wealth of recipes and culinary traditions to consumers in Greece and abroad and how to distribute locally produced food and beverages on an international scale. The brand’s logo makes references to the islands’ long tradition in fishing and in growing wine and olives and will be included in all AegeanCuisine-related communication. The first end product developed under the AegeanCuisine initiative is a bilingual cookbook presenting some of the islands’ most popular traditional recipes in a contemporary way. This book aims not only at the amateur cook but also at the professional chef looking for new flavours of Greece and the Mediterranean. The web site www.aegeancuisine.gr (.com | .eu | .net) will serve as an information gateway for consumers as well as a virtual business-to-business meeting point where food retail and wholesale professionals can get in contact with producers from the Aegean Islands. All local businesses that will be affiliated and promoted through the AegeanCuisine initiative, will undergo an evaluation and will be certified as ambassadors of the unique culinary culture that the Aegean Islands stand for.
